Core 7 Reference
What is the Core 7?
In 2007, Hasbro decided to limit its production of new ponies to seven core characters:
Cheerilee
Pinkie Pie
Rainbow Dash
Scootaloo
Sweetie Belle
Starsong
Toola-Roola
Most all of the releases since then have been those Core 7, however some past characters have been re-released in the new Core 7 poses. For example, in Winter 2008, Minty was re-released. So far, Minty is the only non-Core 7 character besides special collector and fair/convention exclusives to be released.
